Christoper H. Bryson
Chris departed this life on December 25, 2023 at the age of 66 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis R. Bryson, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and his faithful dog, Jack. He was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio beginning on September 21, 1957. Chris was always proud to be a “South Ender”. He attended ST. Raphael school and church, Hayward Junior High, and Springfield South High, graduating in 1975. After high school, he joined the navy and served as a Corpsman in various capacities, including hospitals, clinics, and the Fleet Marine Forces (FMF). These travels took him to duty stations at Camp Lejeune where he worked with an explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) team (much to the chagrin of his mother), San Antonio, the USS Ponce (LPD-15), and San Diego. During his time in San Diego, he graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Psychology.
Chris sampled several occupations. He worked for a time in the federal government and private hospitals as a neuropsychiatric technician. He also launched a brief but successful career in the insurance industry. He eventually found his niche in business as a solo purveyor of graphic design products and services (The Waxed Paper Press). Anyone who knew Chris knew he had a hard time working for others or within defined rules and parameters! (A family trait well documented in military, education, and law enforcement records.)
In 1994 he met the love of his life, the beautiful and talented Cynthia Swope. They resided in New York City for several years before taking up residence in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Meanwhile, his one-man graphic design business thrived. After living in New Orleans for 23 years, Chris and Cynthia recently bought a beautiful home on the banks of the beautiful and historic Saint Johns River in Welaka, FL.
Christoper’s hobbies included photography, sailing, reading, and gardening. He referred to himself as a “street photographer”, capturing people, places, and events, spontaneously in everyday life and ordinary activities. His photographs are typically black and white and shot in the early morning hours. A sampling of his artwork can be viewed at www.christopher-bryson.com. Other photographs can be seen on his Facebook page.
He is survived by his mother Lorraine of Ocala, FL, wife Cynthia, Welaka, FL, brother Mark (Deborah), Clifton, VA, sister Dennette (Curtis) Ocala, FL, and Nick of Gainesville, FL. His nieces and nephews include Natalie Jenkins of Ocala, FL, Phillip Jenkins (Dasha) Ocala, FL, Zachary Bryson, Gainesville, FL, and Emily Bryson, Fairfax, VA.
There will be a private memorial service held at the convenience of the family.
