Walter Charles Johnson Jr. age 78 of Xenia passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born the son of Walter C. & Mildred (McPherson) Johnson on January 10, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents; son Eric B. Johnson in 2009; sister Brenda K. Medley. Walter is survived by his beloved daughter Melanie (Darrin) Whitmore of Springfield; brother Thomas E. Johnson of Hillsboro; grandchildren Stephanie C. (Jeremy) Hoylman of West Virginia, & Stephen J. (Kelby Kittles) Whitmore of Enon; great grandchildren Owen, Madison, & Brooklynn; former wife Sherry Furber; special friend Jo; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, & a host of friends. Walter was a loving father, grandfather, brother, & friend. He will be missed by all of those who love him. Walter was a member of The United States Army serving in Vietnam where he was a Howitzer gunner. After his military career he was employed with Navistar for over 32 years. Walter was an impressive mechanic & enjoyed everything about cars. He was known to keep his vehicles in impeccable shape. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing & watching dirt track racing. Walter was a member of the Dayton 73 Moose Lodge in Beavercreek, & the American Legion Post 8312. A memorial celebration will be announced at a later date.
