Protsman-Hays, Virginia "Shorty", 72 of South Charleston passed away December 29, 2016 in her home. She was born in Clark County, Ohio on June 10, 1944, the daughter of James H. and Ella L. Cultice. Shorty worked as a LPN for Planned Parenthood for twelve years. She then began home health care for several families until her mother needed care. Shorty was a member of the Pitchin Community Church and the I.O.O.F. She had an love of horses, farming, Siberian huskies and wood crafts. Anybody who knew her would agree that she was known as a "Jack of all trades and master of none." Shorty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Wayne Protsman and Elbirty Hays; brother James E.; sister Janet Sharp and step sister Peggy Alderson. Survivors include her children James (Kim) H. Protsman, Sr., Lucinda (Mike) McAlster, Richard Protsman and Phillip (Lisa) Protsman; five step children; brother Jake (Missie) Cultice; sistes Alice (Tom) Cryder and Ruth (Lewis) Spirey; step sisters Marilyn (Art) Jarvis, Martha (Chuck) Hernstein and Sharon (Bob) Leigh; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law Marilyn Protsman. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Pitchin Community Church. Services to honor Shorty will be Wednesday at 10:30am in the Pitchin Community Church 5566 Selma Pike with Rev. Paul Price officiating. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Pitchin Community Church C/O Eileen Cessna 4889 Mills Road Springfield, Ohio 45502. RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
