Robert I. Christel

Robert I. Christel, age 98 of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Forest Glen Health Campus.  He was born the son of Elmer & Sarah (Drew) Christel on May 28, 1926 in Norwalk, Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Harold Christel.  Robert is survived by his beloved wife Lois Christel; son Mark (Barb) Christel of Columbus; daughter Beth Christel Kruse of Cincinnati; a host of dear friends, extended family, & wonderful church family.  Robert was a faithful Christian & a longtime member of First Lutheran Church.  Robert studied at Ohio University & earned his Masters from Miami University in woodworking education.  For many years he was employed by the Springfield City School District where he taught woodworking & math. In his spare time, he enjoyed tending to his garden & greenhouse.  In his later years, he discovered his passion for antique clocks. In his eighties he attended a clock school in Pennsylvania & began training to climb Big Ben in London, England.  At 82 years old he climbed Big Ben & was able to wind the famous clock.  Robert was a loving husband, father, teacher & friend.  He will be missed by all of those who love him.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at First Lutheran Church 30 S. Wittenberg Ave. Springfield, Ohio 45502 11AM.
