Merrill Clair Flory
94, of Springfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2016 at home. He was born September 8, 1921 in Painter Creek, Ohio, the son of the late Rolland and Golda Flory. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1939 and attended Cedarville College before leaving to pursue farming full time. He attended Donnels Creek Church of the Brethren since he was a young child. As young men, Merrill and his identical twin brother, Laurrell, enjoyed switching identities to play tricks on their friends. Merrill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed traveling, cutting firewood, working in the woods, and spending time with family and many friends. He was always young at heart. Merrill and his wife, Joy, participated in a couples group who has met monthly for the last 52 years. He is survived by his wife, Joy (Harsh); son, Gary (Ella) Flory; daughter, Linda (Ben) Clymer; four grandchildren, Nick, Emily, Renee and Ava; and twin brother, Laurrell Flory. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rolland Jr. and Herbert; and his sister, Ruth. Contributions in memory of Merrill may be made to Donnels Creek Church of the Brethren, New Carlisle Church of the Brethren or Heifer Project International.Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 2:00 PMMonday, March 28, 2016 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio with funeral services at 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
