Martha Marlene (McKenzie) Freeland
Was born October 9, 1940 to Floyd & Lorraine Mckenzie in West Union, Ohio in Adams County. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in the small farming community of Blue Creek, Ohio, where the family regularly attended Satterfield’s Chapel Church. She attended Blue Creek High School and graduated from there in 1958. Later that same year she married the love of her life, Lewis E. Freeland. Lewis was in the Army and she followed him to station in Cleveland. In December of 1959 their first son, Roger Lewis, arrived. After the service they moved to Dayton where Lewis took a job with Chrysler. In 1967 they moved to their little house on Ohio Ave. in New Carlisle. In May of 1971 their second son, James Andrew, came along. At that time Martha became a member of the New Carlisle Missionary Church where she remained a member until it changed names in 2013. She worked many years in local Day Cares and spent the most time at Wee Care on S.R. 571. She loved each and every one of the kid’s she was able to teach while there. Martha passed away on the morning of July 17 of complications from surgery two days earlier. She was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Grace, her parents, older sister, Geneva Ruth, older brother, Chester Harold, and her one true love, Lewis Earl. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Roger Lewis and his wife Marianne (Baker) of St. Paris, son, James Andrew and his wife, Katherine Ann (Cooper) of Springfield; granddaughter, Kelsey Ann and her husband Ryan Lehmkuhl of St. Paris, granddaughter, Kendall Elizabeth and her husband Jacob Jeanneret of New Carlisle, granddaughters, Kaylee Marlene & Kenzie Ellen of Springfield; grandson, Caleb Harley; great grandchildren, Joey & Lena Lehmkuhl, Benjamin Jeanneret and one more that will be joining the family at any moment; and many friends & family that will miss her greatly. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the New Carlisle Children’s Library.
