GARRETT, Lillian Violet 96 of Springfield went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2015. She was born July 30, 1919 in Pounding Mill, Tazewell County, Virginia. The daughter of Oscar E. and Cora L. (Harris) Hoops. She was a member of High Street Nazarene Church and she loved her church dearly. Lillian started a ladies prayer group and a prayer line, but the joy of her life was teaching Sunday school to 5th-6th grade girls for 38 years and to the boys for 2 years. She received several awards while teaching, including distinguished second mile awards and several teacher of the year awards. Lillian worked at Wrens Department Store, Carmens, Robbins & Meyers and Robert Hall Clothes. Lillian loved reading her bible and books, doing word searches, gardening, planting flowers, hiking, fishing and just being outdoors. She is survived by her children Donna Miltz, Rick (Elaine) Garrett and Vicki (David) Osborne; grandchildren Brett Allen, Lynette (Greg) Kritzwiser, April (Sean) Whip; nine great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren. A special and loving niece Louise Herod and her sweet companion "Precious". Lillian was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years Elza Garrett; her parents; 3 brothers Ernest, Clifton and John Hoops; 2 sisters Elise Hood and Ora Clark. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME and one hour prior to services at the church. A service to honor Lillian will be Saturday at Noon at the High Street Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Marty Dennis, Rob Paugh & Bill Blaine officiating.
