Leroy Heeg, 90, of Springfield passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born September 5, 1925 in Springfield, the son of George B. and Lillie (Zeigler) Heeg. Leroy was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII on the U.S.S. Savanah and Wisconsin. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Church, VFW Post #1031 and the W.B.C.C.I. Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Marry B. (Ackley) Heeg; sons Larry (Robin) Heeg, Doug (Maria) Heeg and Jerry (Kay) Heeg; a sister Betty Detray; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. Leroy’s family would like to thank Dr. Vipul Patel and staff, Buckeye Homecare and Hospice of Montgomery County for their excellent care. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. A funeral service to honor Leroy will be Friday at 11:00 AM in the memorial home with Pastors Rick Warren and Warren Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Asbury Cemetery.
