Leon "Doug" Burr, 93, of Springfield went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was born April 7, 1923 in Cedarville the son of Horace and Lulu (Rino) Burr. Doug served in the Army Air Corps, 14th Air Force during WWII in the China-Burma-India Theater. He flew numerous missions from India over the Himalayas, "The Hump" into China, as a co-pilot/flight engineer on cargo planes with the Flying Tigers which supplied Merrill’s Marauders and the Free Chinese Army. Doug worked nine years at International Harvester and retired as Maintenance Supervisor for Dinner Bell Foods in Troy with thirty-two years of service. He was raised in the Hillside Church of God and was a longtime member of the Beatty Freewill Baptist Church. Doug always put in a big vegetable garden that he loved to share with friends and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who always put family and other people first. He is survived by his wife Dolores Burr; his son Mike (Beckey) Burr of Sherrills Ford, SC; four daughters Shirley (Mike) Vince, Pam (Wayne) LeMay, Penny (David) Dunbar, and Shonda (J.D.) Lindeman, all of Springfield; ten grandchildren Chris, Jeff, Paul, Sarah, Cody, Tyler, Elias, Jami, Sean and Bethany; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Audrey Burr in 1998; three brothers Warren, Kenneth and Elwood Burr; four sisters Marcelle King, Mabel Hinman, Irene Mattes and Florence Knisley. Visitation will be Friday from 11 AM - 1 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Doug’s life will be Friday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home.
