Johnson, Larry J., 68 of Springfield went home to be with the Lord on November 16, 2021. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on February 13, 1953, the son of the late Lawrence O. and Nannie Willow (Keller) Johnson. Larry was a 1971 graduate of Springfield South High School and received a Graphic Arts degree from Clark State College. He was a member of Maplewood Nazarene Church, where he was very active in the Children’s Ministry and served on the church board. Since COVID, he had been attending High Street Church of the Nazarene. Larry was known for his infectious laugh and his love of talking. Larry was always busy doing something, such as teaching Sunday school or junior church; singing in the choir; writing, directing, or making props or acting in church plays; restoring or showing off vintage cars including Ford Model T’s and Model A’s; taking pictures; building something; just tinkering; playing board games; helping his brother with his lawn service; helping others; or spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. Larry worked for Gates McDonald, Assurant but retired from Code Blue. Following retirement, he worked part-time for Clark County Mental Health and Wall 2 Wall storage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson Larry Pendergraft. Survivors include his wife Joyce (Murnahan) Johnson; step grandson Andrew Pendergraft, whom he was raising; his daughter Chariti (George) Mitchell; two grandchildren Hope and Christian Mitchell; his former wife Marilyn (Camden) Johnson; brother David Johnson; sister Nancy (Phil) Wall; niece Kelli Wall and a great-nephew Zach Wall; stepsons Stephen (Tracy) Pendergraft and David (Kimberly) Smith; 9 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren. Services to honor Larry will be Friday at 11:00AM in the High Street Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Marty Dennis officiating. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services.
