Binder, Karl E., age 94, passed away Friday, April 21, at Forest Glen, Springfield. Karl was born Dec. 23, 1922 in Backnang, Germany, the son of Frederick and Emilie (Ackerman)Binder. Karl was two years old when his parents moved to the United States. Karl served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, where he served as a ground crew chief in the North Africa campaign. After discharge from the service, Karl worked as a mechanic on the restoration of airplanes at the U.S. Air Force Museum. Karl was a giftedartist who enjoyed doing oil paintings that decorated his home and which he gave as gifts to family and friends. Karl is survived by a great-niece, Lisa Whitacre (Mark) and family friend, Maureen Grady, of Springfield; a nephew Fritz (Patricia) Kullack of Center, KY.; and a niece, Linda Meickowski of Columbus, Oh. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65years, Eileen Comer Binder, a brother and two sisters. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Richard Darr for his extraordinary care and support of Karl for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff of Forest Glen Health Campus for their care and support for Karl and the family. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
