News Death Notice

MUNDY, Joseph Cecil Age 95, went home to be with his Savior, on the 27th of September, 2015, after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Vivian A. (Miner) Mundy, children Sue (Roger) Davis, Mary (Denny) Dennis, Judy (Johnny) Reda, Joe (Laurel) Mundy, and Dave (Michele) Mundy, and by 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and 2 great, great, grandchildren. Cecil was born April 17, 1920, to John and Kate (Abernathy) Mundy in Murphy, North Carolina. He moved to Springfield, Ohio, when he was 16 years old, followed shortly thereafter by his parents and siblings, settling in New Moorefield. He proudly served the United States of America during World War II, joining the Army Air Corps in 1941. He served as MP, stationed in India. Upon discharge he worked as a meat cutter at Mundy's Market with his brother Garfield for 45 years, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he and Vivian moved to Holiday, Florida for 6 years, then returned to their family home on Croft Road. They took advantage of retired life by travelling to the western US, Alaska, Egypt and the Holy Land, Mexico, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. He stayed active and busy well into his nineties with two of his most favorite pastimes - gardening and repairing lawn mowers. He was a long-time member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, and had also attended Springfield Church of Christ on Buck Creek Lane for a time. He was known as "The Candy Man" for his generosity with sweets for all the kids, young and old. He and Vivian were recently honored by the Kiwanis Club and United Senior Services for their long-time marriage and commitment to each other, being crowned "King and Queen" for being the longest married couple in Springfield. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until time of services at Noon Tuesday in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Pastors Aaron Marvel and William Brown officiating. Entombment to follow Rose Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
