Joseph F. Merz

84, of Tipp City, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2016 at The Laurels of Huber Heights. Joe was born in Blue Creek, Ohio, to John F. and Lulu Hayslip Merz on April, 25th 1932. He graduated from Peebles High School. He married G. Maxine Brayfield, on July 12, 1952 in West Union, Ohio. He was the owner/operator of Merz Painting, Roofing, and Maintenance for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Huber Heights Church of God. As a longtime resident of Bethel Township, he supported the community, the schools, and the athletic programs. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John, Bobby and Raymond Merz, sisters, Bea and Dot, and two great grandsons, James and Brent Clendening. Joe is survived by his wife Maxine, children, Jim (Pam) Merz, Peggy (Brad) Clendening, and Bill (Ruth) Merz. Grandchildren, Jessica (Rick) Peake, Nathan Merz, Ian Merz, Carrie Clendening, Jason Clendening, Misty (Mario) Hood, Brian (Liz) Merz and Chris (Abby) Merz. Great-grandchildren, Stetson & Brayden Peake, Matthew & Madison Merz, Kinley & Ezekiel Merz, and Dalen & Cola Hood. He will also be remembered by many other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Miami Valley, The Brent Clendening Memorial Scholarship, or the Children’s Prayer Circle of the Huber Heights Church of God. The family of Joseph Merz wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Miami Valley as well as the staff of The Laurels of Huber Heights. Visitation, will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Huber Heights Church of God, 6900 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Huber Heights Church of God, with Bill Riley and Chris Merz officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel West Cemetery. Arrangements are by TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio.
