HICKEY, John Richard, 96, of New Carlisle, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born May 18,1920, in Circleville, to the late John Joseph and Hazel (Seymour) Hickey. John graduated from Catawba High School; served in the US Army, becoming a proud WWII Veteran; was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Co., then W-PAFB in communications until his retirement in 1967. He then became a full-time farmer later establishing Farmstead Auto Sales. He had a strong work ethic and taught his children the value of a good days work. John married the love of his life, Betty Yvonne (Farish) on Nov. 4,1945, in Newport, Ky. Together they shared a passion for antiques and had several booths and display cases at the Springfield Antique Center. Left to cherish his memory are three of his five children; Cheryl (John) Snyder, New Carlisle; John Steven (Adita) Hickey, Centerville and Brenda (Patrick) Murphy, Enon. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; Gretchen (Tim) Hilty, Huber Heights; Clark (Jennifer) Snyder, Springfield; Darryl (Missy) Snyder, Plain City; Gregory (Amanda) Snyder and Erik (Lahela) Snyder, all of New Carlisle; Montee Fiely, Atlanta, Ga.; Clint Fiely, Dayton; Rachael (Ron) Uebel, Chicago, III.; Renee Couch, Germantown, Tn.; Julie (Heidi) Jones, Rockford, TN.; Noah and Hannah Hickey, Centerville; Nichole (Craig) Justice, Springfield; Lisa (Christopher) Anderson, Arnold, Md.; Matthew Murphy, Clifton, and Amanda Stephany of West Chester; 28 great-grandchildren; Heidi (Tyler) Suttle, Abby, Natalie and Courtney Hilty, Alex (Brittany) Snyder, Ellen Snyder, Rebekah, Matthew and Rachel Snyder, Madelyn and Gage Snyder, Maila and Eli Snyder, Bryce Fiely, Ryan Uebel, Mikayla and Nick Anewalt, Dylan, Riley, Hunter and Nathan Jones, Jacob and Makenna Juergens, Bailey Justice, Jackson Anderson, Miette and Eloise Murphy and Caelek Stephany; and one great-great grandchild, Graham Suttle. Preceeding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Betty; two daughters, Caroyl Hickey and Candee Fiely; a grandson, Tyler Anewalt; a brother, James, and sisters, Teresa, Mabel, Ruth and Frances. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, in the Trostel Chapman Dunbar and Fraley Funeral Home, New Carlisle, with service at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
