Jesse Duane Combs

August 8, 1930 — August 30, 2022

“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.”

These are my father’s favorite words from the poem High Flight. In the late 1940’s, a teenager, he built his own airplane and proceeded to touch those silver skies almost to his final years. He has slipped those bonds now and ended his journey on this Earth after 92 years of joy in the silvered blue sky.

On August 30 th , Jesse Duane Combs, from Waynesburg, Kentucky ended his story in Huber Heights, Ohio. He comes from an extended line of long-lived ancestors and lived up to that history by staying just eight years shy of a century. In addition to flying, his loves were restoring antique cars and enjoying the company of his beloved cats. He will be missed, but celebrated for living his life to the fullest and leaving only when it was time to go.

So daughters Teresa Butts and Donna LaPrath, and sons Randall Combs and Jason Combs, send him soaring into the sky so he can fly forever. Gone before him are sons Ron and John Combs, and wife Caroline Combs.

Rest well, Dad, in between your journeys beyond the clouds.
