Jeffrey A. Whitt

Jeffrey A. Whitt, 55, of Enon passed away surrounded by his family Monday, May 16, 2016. He was born November 2, 1960 in Morehead, KY, the son of Durward and Barbara Jean (Mann) Whitt. Jeff had a Masters of Science Degree. He taught 8th grade American history for 14 years at Schaffer Middle School and 16 years at Indian Valley Middle School, retiring in 2015. Jeff coached track and football at Schaffer Middle School and Greenon Local Schools. He was a master in competitive chess, coaching the South High School Chess team to a State Championship. Jeff was a member of SAR and was awarded the DAR teacher of the year both locally and for the state of Ohio. He traveled to 49 states and loved traveling, golfing and camping. Jeff enjoyed being a teacher chaperone for the student DC trips with his friend Tommy Jenkins. He is preceded in death by his mother; grandparents; and mother-in-law Joyce Shellabarger. Jeff is survived by his wife of over 30 years Karen L. Whitt whom he married August 2, 1985; a brother Marvin Whitt; a sister Sheila (Craig) Grimm; father-in-law Charles R. Shellabarger; sister-in-law JoAnn (Mike) Stratton; nieces Amanda (Duane) Glase and Julie (Ryan) Tirey; nephews Michel (Alli) Stratton, Mitchell (Ashley) Stratton and Ryan Grimm; five great-nephews; one great-niece; numerous longtime friends and colleagues. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. A funeral to honor Jeff will be Thursday at 9:30 AM in the memorial home. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jeff Whitt Memorial Scholarship Fund at Security National Bank, Enon Branch, 3680 Marion Dr., Enon, OH 45323.
