Jay E. Brening, 85, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He was born October 21, 1931 in Springfield the son of George and Kathryn (Loos) Brening. Jay was a graduate of Springfield High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was retired from Winco Industries in Tipp City. Jay was a drummer for several local bands in the 1950’s and 60’s, and was a member of the Elks and the Union Club. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years Verna M. (Johnson) Brening; a daughter Gretchen S. Bayless; a daughter-in-law Kathy Brening, all of Springfield; a brother George Brening of Georgia; three grandchildren Jessica (Kenny) Belles and Casey (Alex) Fyffe of Springfield, and Zach Bayless of Beavercreek; three great grandchildren Zander, Ellie and Colten; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Mitch Brening, and his son-in-law Bob Bayless. A Memorial service will be held Monday at 1:00 PM. in RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
