James W. Mccann

James “Jim” William McCann 95, of New Carlisle, passed away August 19, 2024, surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 7, 1929, to the late Paul and Ruth McCann.  He joined the United States Air Force serving 29 years throughout the world primarily as an aircraft mechanic.  He returned to serve his country as a civil servant in the Air Force for 12 years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family including his four-legged friends, golfing, and sitting on his porch. He is survived by his children, Patricia L. and her husband Jim Gay, a son, Robert and his partner Jim Mudd; two grandchildren, Robbie Thomas & Eric and his wife Pam; step-grandchildren, Jimmy & Emily Gay; a sister Hazel Marie McCann, great-granddaughter Gemma other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Marjorie McCann, brothers Clyde, Paul, and Don McCann, and sister Alice Ann Fast.  Jim was a people magnet; he liked everyone, and everyone liked him.   Jim was known as “Pop” by many of us.  We saw him as a father or grandfather figure who always asked us how we were doing and reminded us to be careful as we were leaving.  He modeled behaviors that taught us to be better people.  Because of knowing Pop, we are reminded to be kind, look for the best in one another, and always have time to help.  A celebration of his life will held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home in New Carlisle, Ohio.
