Hooten, James "Howard" of Springfield passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in St. Mary’s, Ohio. He was born June 21, 1935 in Dunlap Tennessee the son of Enoch and Alma (Hurst) Hooten. He retired from Howards Sober – Dallas Mavis Trucking. He was a past member and president of Teamsters Local #654 in Springfield. James was also a past Grand Master of HS Kissell Lodge #674 F&AM. He was a licensed auctioneer and for a time ran his own auction house. James enjoyed writing and playing country music, playing cards with family and friends, fishing, and auto racing. He was very generous to all friends and family and will be greatly missed by many. James is survived by Barbara Hooten; son Enoch Hooten of Sharpsville Indiana; daughter Lisa (Kevin) Bowers of Spencerville; brother George (Janice) T. Hooten of Springfield; grandsons Isaac Bowers of Columbus, Zachary (Hannah) Bowers of Hilliard, Elijah Bowers of Columbus, and Benjamin Bowers of Columbus; two great-grandchildren Braden and Cashton Bowers of Spencerville; many nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Marlene Whited; and grandson Jordan Bowers. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM. and one hour prior to the service in RICHARDS, RAFF, & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Masonic services will be held by Kissell Lodge, Friday at 6 PM. Services to honor James’ life will be Saturday 10:30 AM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Frank Miesse officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.
