Howard D. Chapman

Howard D. Chapman, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 19, 2016 at his home in Springfield, Ohio. Howard was born February 27, 1930 to Frederick and Ida Chapman in Delbarton, West Virginia.

Howard served in the United States Army during Korea and attained the rank of Sergeant. He met the love of his life, Alice Blain, after returning home and they married in 1960 in Plattsburg, Ohio

Howard lived and worked in Springfield, Ohio for most of his life. At one point he and his special cousin Pete Thompson owned their own tire company. He later retired from International Steel Wool. After retiring Howard enjoyed reading, doing cross word puzzles, cooking, walking at the reservoir and spending time with his family. Nine months before his death, Howard accepted Christ as his savior and enjoyed times of Bible reading and prayer with family and friends.

Howard is survived by his wife Alice (Blain) Chapman of 55 years; son Michael Chapman; daughter Melody (Jared) Williams; brother Kyle Chapman; grandchildren Erin (Don) Burnette, Kaitlin (Caleb) Clark, Logan Chapman, Michaela Williams, Justin Williams, Joshua (Olivia) Williams and Jacob Williams; great-grandchildren Isaac, Abram, Elinoar and Aliza Clark and Presley Williams; cousins Pete and Darlene Thompson; special friends Roger and Sally Fisher and Richard and Daisy Blevins and Connie Samples; and many well-loved nieces, nephews and extended family. Howard was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frederick Chapman, Jr. and sister Jaunita Chapman and special friend and cousin Robert Davis.

The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice, especially Kathy Trimmer and Faith Castiaux for their loving care and kindness to Howard over the past seven months.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Richards, Raff and Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 E. High Street, Springfield, Ohio, with a celebration of his life immediately following at 2:00 pm with Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Madison County Special Olympics or the donor’s favorite charity.
