Helen Fryer

October 7, 1934 — June 15, 2022

Helen Louise (Maloney) Fryer passed peacefully, or at least as peacefully as she did anything, on June 15, 2022, at Stonespring of Vandalia, Ohio. Incessantly confused by her son’s sense of humor, he is likely the last person she would have chosen to write her obituary. Yet, here we are. Helen was born October 7th, 1934 in Wellsburg, West Virginia, to Helen and Clarence “Pop” Maloney Sr. She married Robert Fryer on August 14th, 1955 and in 1961 packed up their two small children and followed him to Ohio. While her family always assumed that leaving her beloved West Virginia was what caused her regret, later statements made clear that including their children in the packing list was at least a contributing factor. While Helen enjoyed sewing, baking, and various crafts, her primary hobby was reminding everyone that she never wanted to leave West Virginia in the first place. Helen is survived temporarily by her husband, Robert Fryer, and her children, each of whom was a great disappointment to her in their own way: son Ron Fryer (Michelle), a disappointment for moving so far away; daughter Jaynie Lorene Wigger (John), a disappointment for leaving the family nest at the tender age of 53; son Dimitri DiFrancesco (Umberto), a disappointment for being imaginary, but who most certainly would have been a disappointment for some other reason had he been real. She is also survived by one grandchild, Alexandria Fryer, and siblings Gracie Arbogast (Bill) and Wayne Maloney (Nancy, deceased). She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence “Bup” Maloney Jr. Services were held by the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.trostelchapman.com .
