92, of New Carlisle, OH passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019. She was born March 11, 1927 in her family home in Dayton, Ohio, the 5th of 6 daughters of Wilbur and Elizabeth Shuey. After graduating Fairview High School, Harriet worked in a bakery and showed dogs before starting a family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents (above) and sisters Elizabeth (Alfred) Staley, Alice (Harold) Bumgardner, Sarah (Eugene) Norris, and brothers-in-law Carl Kohl and Harry Kohl. She is survived by her loving husband for 71 years, Milton Kohl of New Carlisle, OH. sisters Dorothy (Harry) Kohl of Palm City, FL and Caroline Shuey of Miamisburg, OH; son Edwin (Susan) Kohl of Beavercreek, Ohio; daughter Kathryn (Ted) Hafer of LaRue, OH; daughter Linda Kohl (Randy Helt) of New Carlisle, OH; grandchildren: Kristin (Nicholas) Peiffer of Bowling Green, OH; John Hafer of LaRue, OH; Jason Kohl of Austin, TX; Justin, Jeffrey, Kevin & Rebecca Helt of New Carlisle, OH; great grandson Wyatt Peiffer; numerous nieces, nephews, grand & great nieces & nephews, other relatives & friends. She was a lifelong Presbyterian as a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton where she was baptized & confirmed, and for 13 years a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Centerville, OH. She devoted many years to the sewing circle at Westminster sewing children's clothes and knitting baby hats to support various missions. She was the 4-H Advisor for Washington Township Riders 4-H Horse Club for 20+ years and served on the Montgomery County 4-H Horse Advisory Committee. She held amateur radio license K8PKL and was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association, Upper Valley Amateur Radio Club, Miami Valley FM Association, and Dayton Amateur Radio Association. She was a member of the Dayton Women's Club, Centerville Children's Conservation League ( CCL / the Fencers), Centerville Women's Civic Club, Washington Township GOP, New Carlisle Sertoma, & Lowrey Organ LIFE Recreational Music Club. Her interests included playing the organ, sewing, quilting, knitting, raising & riding horses, bird watching, flower gardening, baking, canning jams, jellies, applesauce and fruits, and listening to her family & friends play musical instruments. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM the 22nd day of June, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, OH, Sanctuary with a reception in Fellowship Hall to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 North Wilkinson St. Dayton, Ohio 45402 or Kindred Hospice, 7887 Washington Village Dr. Suite 350, Dayton, Ohio 45459.
