HAROLD DAY CROUCH, JR.
93, died in New Carlisle, Ohio on June 24, 2016. He was born in Stroh, Indiana, on November 23, 1922, the son of Harold D. & Lima (Zerbe) Crouch. The family moved to Medway, Ohio, where he attended local schools, graduating from Olive Branch High School in 1943. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy, he served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Knapp (DD-253) from the time of its commissioning on September 16, 1943 through January 1945, seeing action in the Marshall and Marianas Islands and the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Palau, Okinawa and Leyte Gulf. He returned to Clark County, settling in Crystal Lakes in 1947. Following a short period of employment as an electrician with the Southwestern Portland Cement Company, he went to work as a technician in the Propeller Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, where he remained until his retirement in 1977 as a senior technician and supervisor. Accepting a post with several contracting firms, he continued in that capacity in the Propulsion Directorate for another twenty years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Nadja Joan. Survivors include two sons and their wives; Tom D. & Nancy Crouch of Centerville, Virginia and Dana Crouch & Debbie Flanary of Pocomoke City, Maryland. His grandchildren include: Christopher (deceased), Bruce Crouch; Abigail Wyatt and her husband John; and Nathan Crouch and his wife, Kari; Krista Wale and her husband Ryan; Catherine Werling and her husband David; Danny Flanary (Alyssa Martinez) and Jessica Mitchell. Great grandchildren include: Emma and Alexander Wyatt; Rafael Lopez, Lillyana Mae Crouch; Derek Lacy; Ethan, Carter and Charis Wale; Cheyanne Alten; Ader West, Taylor and David Werling; Christian and Bishop Mitchell and Riley Flanary. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM in the chapel.
