Deerwester, Gary L., 79 of South Charleston went home to his Lord and Savior on November 8, 2016. He was born in McComb, Ohio on February 1, 1937, the son of Chester and Flo Deerwester.Gary graduated from Van Buren High School andreceived his Bachelor of Science inAgronomyfrom The Ohio State University.Heretired with 37 years of service from Landmark and Countrymark as the seed plant manager. Following retirement hewas called back towork for the Ohio Seed Improvement Association in Dublinwhere he stayed for 18 years,retiring in 2015. Gary was a faithful member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of South Charlestonfor over 50 years, where he was active in Young Life making sure they had breakfast on Thursday mornings. He was also a member of the South Charleston Community Club and the OSU Alumni Association (O-H … !!). Garyloved his family and alwaysenjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their activities any chance he could get. He will be remembered for his strong faith in Jesus Christ, his Godly wisdom, his kindness and his contagious smile. His great desire in his death was that ‘God, not an individual, would be glorified, because of what He did for us’. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dean Deerwester and infant sister Pauline. He has left to cherish his memory hislovingwife of 57 years NancyButlerDeerwester; children Lynne (Bernard) Clark, Karen (Paul) Gartner; Debra (Steve) Myers and David (Sharon) Deerwester; grandchildren Michael, Catie, Allie, and Matthew Clark; Andrew, Jonny, and Adelee Gartner; Jake, Emily, Julie, Dan and Jenny Myers; Caleb, Elly and Sara Deerwester; many nieces, nephews; and a host of friends. A memorial service to honor Gary will be on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00AM in the First Presbyterian Church, South Charleston with Rev. Denny Moritz officiating. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00AM.In lieu of flowers,memorial contributionsmay be madeto the First Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOMEhas been entrusted with the final arrangements.
