Ella Kay "Katie" Eggleston

Ella Kay “Katie” Daugherty Eggleston was born in Grundy, Virginia on March 3, 1950, to Mary & Everett Daugherty. In 1954 her family moved to Ohio where they lived in New Carlisle most of the time.

In 1967 she met Jeff Eggleston. She graduated in 1968 from Tecumseh High School. She went on to Clark State and graduated in June of 1971and in August of that same year she married her high school sweetheart Jeff Eggleston.

In the fall she began working in the guidance office of Spinning Hills Middle School until February 1975 when her son Zach was born. Then a year and a half later her son Bruce came along. Katie stayed at home and raised her boys but always had a house full of kids, helping to care for neighbors' kids, her nieces, and nephews.

When the boys were old enough to care for themselves, Katie wanted more so she and Jeff adopted three young girls, Angie, Peggy & Lisa. Over the years Kaite kept her children involved in church, scouts, and 4-H.

After the girls grew up Katie shifted gears and went to work at Emory Air Freight where she loaded freight and airplanes. She continued working until she started having heart problems and had to retire.

In retirement, Katie was able to enjoy her hobby of sewing. In the next few years, she made dozens of quilts which she gave to family and friends and organizations who would raffle them off for fundraisers.

Katie passed away in the morning on April 2, 2024. Katie will be missed by many including her husband, Jeff; children, Zach, Bruce, Angie, Peggy & Lisa, and their spouses, 12 grandchildren; sisters, Debbie Jo & Maggie and many other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Barb.

A memorial service to honor Katie’s life will be held on April 13, 2024, at 11 am at First United Methodist Church of New Carlisle, 220 S. Main St. New Carlisle. Online condolences may be made at trostelchapman.com
