Edith M. Lopez, 88, of Springfield passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in her home. She was born August 15, 1928 in Kassel, Germany the daughter of Hans and Elizabeth (Moebus) Vogt and came to the U.S. in 1955. She married Jim Lopez in 1957 and came to Springfield in 1968. Edith was a fixture at Jim’s side, and together they ran Taco Bell, Jim’s Coney Island, Jim’s Pizza and his numerous other business ventures. She is preceded in death by her husband James W. Lopez, Sr. in 2015 and her brother Oscar Vogt. Edith is survived by her son James W. Lopez, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Russell Tuggle; former daughter-in-law LeeAnn Lopez, all of Springfield; sister Irmgard Morrison of Clarksburg, WV; four grandchildren Nicole (Scott) Miller, James W. Lopez III, Laura (Shane) Lopez-Delat, and Samuel (Randi Wood) Lopez; eight great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. Edith’s family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Cindy. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon – 2 PMin the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Edith’s life will be Saturday at 2:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
