Douglas J Wilkins

December 29, 1946 — March 7, 2023

Douglas J Wilkins passed away on March 7, 2023, in Naples, FL, following a three-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis at the age of 76.

Douglas was born on December 29, 1946, to James F. And Wilma (Byers) Wilkins.  Doug grew up working at the family restaurant of Wilkins Drive In and also trained and showed Arabian horses.  He coerced his parents to send him to high school at Millersburg Military Institute in Millersburg, KY.  A school he held dear to his heart.  After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy and served his country proudly.

Doug became a local small business owner in 1980 when he launched Superior Soda Service servicing large restaurant chains across Ohio, Indiana, and northern Kentucky for over 25 years.

Doug married, Jan Fields, in 1993 and together they etched out a life of travel and wonderment. Eventually they retired to Naples, FL, to Quail West Country Club where a year after his ALS diagnosis Doug scored his first Hole in One!

Doug defined success as “having what you need in life. A house or trailer, something to live in, and friends!  Doug cherished all of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Jan Fields, Naples, daughter, Stephanie Meade(Jeb), Springfield,  stepdaughter, Carrie Cordero (Richard), Tennessee, and sisters Beverly Halpin and Pamela Stowe (Eric) Both of Springfield, and grandchildren, Christopher Turner (Cincinnati) and Grace and Gabby Cordero (Tennessee).

The family is being serviced by the Fuller Funeral Home in Naples and thanks Richards, Raff, and Dunbar for posting his local obituary.  Services will be private but Doug does ask that you toast him at your next getogether!
