Dorothy Louise (Kieffer) Flora, age 95 formerly of New Carlisle, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2024, after an extended illness with dementia. She was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Orth and Esther Kieffer on September 12, 1928. She grew up working in her father’s store, Kieffer’ s Meat Market on Main Street in New Carlisle. Dorothy was a graduate in 1946 of New Carlisle High School. In her career, she was a bank teller at the First National Bank of New Carlisle then Security National Bank. Dorothy was an elder and lifetime member of Honey Creek Presbyterian Church. She belonged to the Eastern Star, was a 4-H leader for the Monkey Stitchers, and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Dorothy was an avid Morel mushroom hunter. She was the founder of the Dorothy K. Flora Wildlife Refuge, in Champaign County. Most of all she loved people, and nurturing those around her, particularly her children and grandchildren. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Talbert T. Flora, sisters, Mary Getz and LaVonne Chadbourne. Dorothy is survived by her children, Jonathan S. (Colleen) Flora, Pamela Flora (Bruce) Gibson, and Laura Flora (Mike) White; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many friends from New Carlisle, Rosewood and Batavia. A memorial service will be held at Honey Creek Presbyterian Church on April 26, 2024, at 3 pm with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to preborn.com.
