Dorothy J. Elliott

Dorothy J. Elliott, 91, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in her home following a brief illness. She was born June 26, 1925 in Toledo, OH the daughter of Harry H. and Eva (Swan) Haynes. Dorothy was a graduate of Grandview Heights High School in Columbus and received her B.S. in Nursing from Ohio State University. She married Dr. John W. Elliott on June 19, 1948 and moved to Springfield in 1957. Dorothy was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and the Vestry, and was a member of the E.C.W. She was Past President of the Clark County Medical Society Alliance and Planned Parenthood; Treasurer of the Prestwick Village Condo Association; and was a member of The Young Woman’s Mission, The Red Hat Society, and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and the Troop Cookie Chairman. Dorothy was an avid bowler and golfer, and was a member of the Springfield District Women’s Bowling and Red & Purple Putters. Dorothy is survived by her four children: Dave Elliott of Ault, CO; Andy (Lynn) Elliott, Sr., Sandy Elliott Mahoney and Steve (Judy) Elliott, all of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Andrew Elliott, Jr., Danielle Elliott, Brendan (Jaime) Mahoney, Maureen Mahoney, Kevin (Andrea) Mahoney, Erin (Ronnie) Elliott Lee, Gina Scheifele and Patty (Doug) Free; four great grandchildren: Brighid and Levi Lee, Morrigan Mahoney and Zach Hess; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Elliott January 25, 2001, and two brothers: Richard (Alice) Haynes and Thomas (Maria) Haynes. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Dorothy’s life will be Saturday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Margaret Sammons officiating. Interment to follow in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to Hospice of Dayton.
