Charles L. Mellott, 77, of Springfield passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born March 7, 1939 in Xenia the son of Harold and Irene (Leigh) Mellott. Following the death of his mother in 1946, Charles was raised by his grandmother, Maude Wyatt in Petersburg, IN. Charles was a D.C. Transit bus driver for 12 years in Washington D.C., retiring in 1967, and moving to Springfield. He went to work for his father at Springfield Poultry Inc., and has been the Owner-Operator since 1975. Charles had a keen interest in H.O. Trains and loved Harness Racing. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Ann (Overholt) Mellott; his children Taunya (Darin) Hough, and Tony Mellott; the mother of his children Patricia M. Adams, all of Springfield; three grandchildren Samantha Hough, Tony (Amanda) Mellott II, and Mandy Mellott; four great grandchildren Rhys, Harper, Nicholas and Rylan. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandmother. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 PM. and for one hour prior to services in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Charles’s life will Saturday at 2:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com.
