CAROL WORTHINGTON CAPLINGER
Carol Caplinger died in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, on Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, November 15, 1935. Her parents, L. Neal Worthington and Ethel Bruner Worthington, and her brother, Kenneth Bruner Worthington, are deceased.
Carol was valedictorian of her high school class at Washington Local High School at Lewistown. She was graduated from Wittenberg College with the degree BS in Medical Technology. She did graduate work atThe Ohio State University and at Western Michigan University.
At the time of her death, she was less than one day away from her fifty-sixth anniversary on May 2 of her marriage to James L. Caplinger, who survives. He is an attorney, and earlier served as City Manager of Springfield.

Children: Carol Lee Caplinger-Lemons, James Neal Caplinger, and Victoria A. Caplinger.
Grandchildren: Jeffery L. Lemons (and wife Catie), Joseph S. Caplinger (and wife Julia), Troy S. Caplinger, and Nic Landaverde.
Great Grandchildren: Christian J. Lemons, Carson J. Lemons, Charlotte Lee Caplinger, and Kyle J. Caplinger.
These family members reside in Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
Carol Caplinger was employed at City and Mercy Hospitals in Springfield, Mercy Hospital in Urbana, Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, and at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in the physiological research department. Later, she devoted herself totally to her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother.
Carol enjoyed good music and art, excellent cuisine, and travel. She was a Penn State Master Gardener who was recognized as an expert on native plants and invasive plants. She did extensive volunteer work at Kings Gap State Park.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, with visiting hours starting at 1:00 pm until the service begins at 2:00 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church in Ithaca, Ohio. Burial will be at the Ithaca Cemetery. Following, all are invited to dinner at the church.
As a result of Carol's obituary not appearing in the Springfield News & Sun on Wednesday, the family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Kings Gap or to Wittenberg University.
A memorial service will be held later in Pennsylvania.
