Betty Leora (Brown) Carey, 90, joined her husband, family and friends in heaven on May 15, 2024. Born November 1, 1933, in Ironton (Hanging Rock), Ohio to Cue & Lucile (Richendollar) Brown, the 7th of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her husband (of over 70 years), Rev. Donald Carey, one daughter, Brenda Ogden, parents and siblings: (brothers) F.M. Brown & George Brown; (sisters) Ann Blair, Alverna DeWitt, Armilda Merrill, Carolyn Brashers and Joan Pennington. son-in-laws John Asper, Sr and Dale Teal. Betty is survived by her daughters Linda Teal and Thresa Asper (Allen) Bair and her youngest sister, Linda York. Grandchildren: George Ogden, Jr (with whom she made her home), April Baker, Jenny Tincher, Michael Fowler, Jr, Megan Burks, John Asper, Jr., Alice Teal and special great-granddaughter, Leora Ogden whom she was helping raise; many more great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She had been employed at Springfield Furniture Works, ITT Jabsco Products (retired), The Springfield New-Sun (retired) and Oakwood Village Nursing Home. Betty finally retired for good at the age of 79. She was a member of Erie Ave (Trinity) Nazarene (until it's closing) and has faithfully attended Maplewood Nazarene since then. She was a unique woman, raising/helping to raise 3 families: Linda, Brenda & Thresa, then George and Jenny Ogden (Brenda passed 1/30/1977), and last but not least, helping George raise his daughter, Leora (who was named after her). Betty was an avid bowler, she was on many bowling teams, she won many trophies. She also loved working jigsaw puzzles, planting a vegetable garden each summer and surrounding her home with beautiful flowers. Her favorite pastime was watching The Game Network, especially “Wheel of Fortune” which she'd watched since the first episode aired on tv and was her favorite show. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024at Richards, Raff & Dunbar, visitation 11:00-12:00and service following with Rev. Nathan Carey officiating. Interment immediately following the service at Ferncliff Cemetery. Dinner to follow at Beacon Church of Christ in Christian Union.
