Barbara Ruth Rollins, age 77, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on November 8, 2024. She was born on March 31, 1947, in Durham North Carolina to the late Ray and Norma Rollins.
Barbara is survived by her siblings: Linda (Jack) Bednar, Connie (John Blazcow) Rollins, Don Rollins, and Randy (Alison) Rollins; brother in law, Jim Schlub; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Barb grew up in the area and loved Springfield, her family, tennis, and her Alma Mater- The Ohio State University. She thrived on family gatherings, birthdays, family Christmas’s, and family reunions. Barb enjoyed giving gifts to people and especially to her nieces and nephews as the younger generations unfolded. She loved getting down to the beach and seeing her aunts, uncles, and cousins in North Carolina and was able to get there one last time this past summer.
Throughout life, Barb was passionate about tennis and played with a high ranking from a young age, then varsity tennis for OSU all four years. She continued to play competitively and stayed active in the tennis community for decades, running the Springfield adult tennis association and then coaching high school tennis for both Greenon and Shawnee high school.
Barb was an educator, starting her teaching career in Columbus upon graduating from OSU. She moved back to Springfield, and completed her career in the Greenon school district, serving as a teacher, counselor, and also as principal in the school system.
For a long time, Barb was active and also a leader with the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Colonial Dames, and Altrusa. She was a lifelong animal lover, and gave generously to ASPCA and locally to the Animal Welfare League.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Richards, Raff, and Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 E. High Street, Springfield. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00am at Ferncliff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA, the Animal Welfare League of Springfield, or the National Kidney Foundation.
