News Death Notice

SCHERER, Arthur James "Jim" 87, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015. He was born on January 13, 1928, in Osborne (now Fairborn), Ohio the son of the late Ernest Scherer and Ellen Marie (Fuller) Sease. He served as a Navy Seaman during WWII (1945-1946) on the USS Providence, Mediterranean Sea. He also served as an Army Private First Class, Company D 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment (1947-1950) and was stationed at Northern Camp Sapporo, Japan. After 35 years, he retired as an LOGAIR Air Terminal Transportation Supervisor from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Ohio. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also loved bowling, golfing, softball and gambling. He was a member of the Retired Eagles Activity Club (REAC), Beavercreek OH. He is survived by his loving wife Joice Scherer (31 years marriage); 3 sons, Larry Simms (Dayton), Gary Scherer (Lexington KY), James Jr. (Deborah) Scherer (Monroe MI); 3 daughters Linda (Terry) Baker, Mary (Bob) Lewis, Kim (Mike) Petkus, and daughter-in-law Ruth Simms; 17 Grandchildren, Tasha Senkowski (Cory Lehman), Tabitha Senkowski (Gary Hillard), John (Jennifer) Lewis, Megan (Derek) Goins, Brittany Lewis, Brandy (Jesse) Radford, Mitch Farnham, Kenneth Baker, Tammy Bretzfelder, Patrick Bretzfelder, Aaron Simms, Ashley Simms, James Scherer, Gary Scherer, Jr., Adrian (Veronica) Scherer, Jeremy (Charity) Scherer, Andrea (Cory) Lee; 21 Great Grandchildren, Cole, Kaitlin, Jaden, William, Wyatt, Audrey (little Chickadee), Jauslyn, Conner, Grace, Aiden, Megan, Gavin, Logan, Lilly, Liberty, Molly, Samantha, Melissa, Shelby, Mitchel, Mave. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Scherer and his son, Daniel Simms. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio with memorial services following at 4 PM in the funeral home.
