Ann M. Waters (Maiden)

Age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother & teacher, died peacefully at home, Saturday July 29, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born in Lorain, Oh, to Edward D. and Lillian (Timmins) Maiden. Ann grew up in Chagrin Falls, OH, and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, with a BS in Education in 1949. She & her husband, Lewis, met on campus in the spring of 1946 and married on Aug. 30th, 1947. She taught first grade for a total of 31 years in Martinsville, IN, Salt Lake City, Boise and New Carlisle, OH.

After retiring, Ann volunteered with CASA, because she wanted to remain connected to children in some way, but not in a school environment. She was active in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir for many years, participating in the Young Woman’s Mission and volunteering in the Nearly New Store. She & Lew took some wonderful trips to Europe and were able to visit her ultimate destination, the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. She said recently that her greatest accomplishment was teaching little people to read.

Ann is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Lewis, her children Mark Waters (Christy), Jan Coyle (Gene) and Kim McAfee, and grandsons Matthew McAfee, Jared Waters and Mark McAfee, and niece, Kristen Haskins (Mary Hickey). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen, brother Edward Jr., nephew James Haskins and beloved dog, Megan. She is also survived by five much-loved "adopted daughters," Debra Patterson, Susan Weaver, Linda Stephens, Barb Walthall, Jaime Bonn and one "adopted son, Terry Zeller. She also leaves behind 2 very special "granddaughters," Sarah Chambers and Lindsay Walthall. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM. in Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ray Stewart officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service in the Library of the church. Private interment to be held at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
