A. Catherine Werst, 99, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Green Hills Center. She was born in Sidney, OH the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Lytle) Oldham. Catherine graduated from Sidney High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University and her Teaching Certificate from Wittenberg College. Catherine retired from Springfield City Schools, where she had taught in several elementary schools. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, and was active in many organizations including Kiwaniannes, New Dimensions Travel Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. Catherine is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law Ann and Bill Thomas of Bellefontaine, Mary Jane Weiss of New York City, Carolyn and Gary Wilhoit of TX, and Linda and John Storm of VA; one son and daughter-in-law William R. and Ruth Werst, Jr. of IL; ten grandchildren Bill Werst III, Anna Moy, Rick Thomas, Laura Wolf, Jenny Crowl, Jim Wilhoit, David Wilhoit, Joe Storm, Jacqui Godwin and Jesse Storm; thirteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William R. Werst in 2008, and was the last of eight children in her family. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 -11 AM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Catherine’s life will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Home with Rev.
